Roxbury Mill invites scholars and teachers of all disciplines to our pastoral setting in the DC metro area. Please join us for a day of both Martial and Arts & Sciences learning, and pick up a new technique or try out a new skill at Sergeants & Scholars.

Ovid Hazen Wells Park. 12001 Skylark Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871. Site opens 9am (first class starts at 10am), closes 5pm.  Click hear from directions and site photos.


Site Restrictions:
Site is dry, per county law. 

Dogs are permitted, but must be leashed and cleaned up after. 

There is no direct automobile access to the event fields themselves as they are enclosed by fence, so please plan accordingly if bringing heavy equipment and/or tents.

advanced skills

Iberian Greatsword - Lord Ii, Scholar

Broken down into relatively simple, situational rules, the montante cruises through the battlefield like a whirling dervish of death. Simple drills to work the basics of the montante, including several 16th century plays.

Trainers will be limited, and available on a first-come, first-serve basis, but rattan or wood simulators will also work, if needed.

This class is intended to give a
mental framework for the juniorlevel
fighter (all Scholars and
interested Free Scholars) to process
melee fights effectively. This class
will be about how brains work and
about how swords work, building up
from a 1v1 context to a unit-level
melee context.

getting the details right, how to drill,

Learn the ways and commands of the Atlantian Rapier Army from the Warlords themselves. Learn to train your local group to fight as a unit as we prepare for Pennsic War 43.


This class may require full armor and weaponry.

Archery and Thrown Weapons: 
To be held on the shooting rage in the east field.

   "Shoot Like The Devil's Horsemen. Introduction to Asiatic Thumb-ring Archery" Time:  11:00 AM, optional second class at 1:00PM
Instructor: Naran Numuchi

Learn about Static-eared Recurve bows and how to shoot with a Thumbring.  Bring any ambidextrous bows you have, especially "horsebows" you have. some loaner gear provided, will have some thumbrings for sale, $5 each.

   "Thrown Weapons Marshalling 101" Time:  10:00 AM
Instructor: Dealla Cohen

Required introductory class for anyone wishing to become a thrown weapons marshal.

Armored Combat:  A large scale war practice will be held throughout the day in the lower baseball field.
